The German Autorenfilm was not completely based on aesthetics properties of film but, it was more about filming classical plays. It was the first attempt of German cinema to try and reach a middle class audience and conquer the authority of Hollywood by specifically adapting German plays and literature. Most of the movies in this new genre were basic and did nothing to improve on camera filming techniques. One Autorenfilm which did not advance in the development of cinema by using special effects was "Der Student von Prag creates by Stellan Rye and directed by Paul Wegener in 1913. Though Wegener went on the direct mayor films of his era such as "Der Golem", he was experimenting with expressionism in the phone when he created the early prototype "Der Student von Prag". The movie started call Wegener's career and with that, the movement of German expressionism in cinema. Many have said that it was this movie that is responsible for the beginning of the Weimar cinematic modernism.
